Football Players Garner NESCAC Honors

Eight members of the Middlebury College football team earned all-conference honors when the NESCAC released its post-season accolades. Seniors Brendan Kelly (Niskayuna, N.Y.), Andrew Matson (Coventry, R.I.), Charles Holm (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior James Millard (Greenwich, Conn.) were named to the first-team, while sophomore Donald McKillop (Poway, Calif.), junior Eric Kamback (Mahwah, N.J.) and seniors Blake Berman (Harwinton, Conn.) and Tyler Owens (Essex Junction, Vt.) earned second-team honors. The group helped lead the Panthers to a 5-3 season, with sole possession of third place in the final NESCAC standings.

Field Hockey Players Earn Regional Honors

Three members of the Middlebury College field hockey team earned New England West All-Region honors by the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association). Senior Taryn Petrelli (Harrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Chase Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) were both named to the first-team, while junior Heather McCormack (Rowley, Mass.) earned second-team honors. The three helped lead the Panthers to a 14-4 record with a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.

Women's Cross Country Headed To NCAA's

The Middlebury College women's cross country will take part in the NCAA Championship hosted by Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana on Saturday, November 22nd at noon. The defending NCAA Champions also claimed titles in ’00, ’01 and ’03 (in Hanover). The Panthers turned in impressive second place finishes in ’99, ’02 and ’04.

Men's Soccer Headed To Stevens For Sectional - Follow It Live!

The Middlebury College men’s soccer team is in the midst of its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance as they head to Stevens Institute for a sectional this weekend. The games will take place in Hoboken, N.J. this Saturday and Sunday, November 22nd and 23rd. The Panthers will meet Carleton of Minnesota in one game at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the host school meets Johns Hopkins at 7:30 p.m. The sectional final is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, with a trip to the final four on the line.

Melberg Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College women’s hockey player Maggie Melberg (Woody, Creek, Colo.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week after her first game as a Panther. The rookie tallied two goals and added an assist in Middlebury’s 5-1 victory over Williams on Saturday. Melberg opened the season for the Panthers with a shorthanded goal midway through the first period, followed by a power-play score in the early moments of the second. Her assist came while Middlebury was shorthanded midway through the second.

Men's Squash Wins Season-Opener

The Middlebury men’s squash team earned a 6-3 win over Hamilton in their season-opener at home. The Panthers entered the match ranked 21st in the pre-season, while the Continentals were 18th. The win avenges a 6-3 loss at the hands of Hamilton a year ago.

Women’s Squash Opens With A Win

The Middlebury women’s squash team opened up its 08-’09 campaign with an 8-1 home win over Hamilton. The Panthers entered the match ranked 18th, while the Continentals were ranked 15th. Middlebury earned seven of their eight wins by 3-0 scores.

Men's Soccer Tops Norwich - Headed To Sectionals

Middlebury advanced to the NCAA sectionals with a 1-0 win over in-state foe Norwich on Sunday afternoon in a regional final match-up. The Panthers will take on Carleton next weekend at Stevens Institute with dates and times set for release on Monday. Norwich ends its run with an impressive 18-3-1 mark.

Men's Hoops Moves To 2-0 With Win Over Norwich

The Panther men’s basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after a 59-41 win over Norwich at the St. Michael’s Classic Tournament. The Middlebury defense forced 24 turnovers in the game and used a balanced scoring attack en route to the victory. Ben Rudin led the team with 12 points and five assists, Aaron Smith scored nine, while Tim Edwards netted eight. Andrew Locke scored six in the game to go along with seven blocked shots and eight rebounds.

Field Hockey Falls In NCAA Regional Final

Middlebury saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Bowdoin in an NCAA Regional Final contest in Maine. The Panthers end their season with a solid 14-4 record, while defending NCAA Champion Bowdoin advances to the final four.

Women's Hoops Falls To Stevens

Middlebury dropped its second game at the Stevens Tournament to the host school by a score of 65-55. The Panthers were led by a 19-point effort from Ashley Barron, who went 6 of 12 from the floor and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the game. Lauren Sanchez scored 10 for the Panthers with five assists, Kaitlyn Fallon netted eight, while Emily Johnson had seven points and five assists.

Women's Cross Country Wins NCAA Regional - Men Place Sixth

The Panther cross country team were impressive at the NCAA New England Regional hosted by Williams on Saturday. The women captured the 49-team event to win the NCAA Regional and an automatic qualification to the NCAA’s. The men’s squad turned in one of their best performances in school history, finishing in sixth place in the 49-team race.

Men's Soccer Dominates NESCAC Awards

The Middlebury College men’s soccer team dominated the NESCAC post-season awards, earning the league’s Player of the Year - senior keeper Brian Bush (Madison, Wis.), Rookie of the Year – Tyler Macnee (Williston, Vt.) and Coach of the Year, David Saward. Joining Bush on the first-team were seniors Allen Bourdon (Lyme, N.H.) and Corey Moffat (Berkeley, Calif.) and junior Colin Nangle (Westport, Mass.). Along with Macnee on the second-team was senior Baer Fisher (Kenilworth, Ill.). The Panthers are currently 13-2-2 and preparing to host an NCAA Regional this weekend.

Brush Wins NCAA Inspiration Award

Former Middlebury College skier Kelly Brush has been named the winner of the prestigious 2009 NCAA Inspiration Award recipient. Brush will receive the award during the Honors and Delegates Celebration January 15 at the 2009 Convention in Washington, D.C.

Handel Is NESCAC Rookie Of The Year - Also Honored By AVCA

Middlebury College women’s volleyball player Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The rookie outside hitter also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC second-team after an impressive first year with the Panthers. She also earned AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) New England Rookie of the Year honors.

Three Panther Field Hockey Players Earn NESCAC Honors

Three members of the Middlebury College field hockey team were honored when the NESCAC released its All-Conference teams today. Matson Earns Academic All-American Honors

Middlebury College football player Andrew Matson (Coventry, R.I.) has been named District I Academic All-American by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) for the second straight season. Earning a spot on the first-team this year, Matson will be placed on a national ballot, with the team being named on November 25th. Matson is also a two-time All-NESCAC Academic selection, who sports a 3.66 GPA with a biochemistry major at Middlebury.

Patterson Invited To Senior Classic

Middlebury College women’s volleyball senior Lindsay Patterson (Aspen, Colo.) has been invited to play in the NEWVA (New England Women’s Volleyball Association) Senior Classic game on Sunday, November 16th at Wellesley. Patterson recently completed an impressive four-year career with the Panthers, ending the ’08 season with a 15-11 mark and a trip to the NESCAC Tournament.

Bush & Nangle Earns Academic All-American Honors

Middlebury College men’s soccer players Brian Bush (Madison, Wis.) and Colin Nangle (Westport, Conn.) have been named District I second-team Academic All-Americans by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association). The duo have helped lead the Panthers to a 10-1-2 record as New England’s top-ranked team.
