Aldrich Named National Coach Of The Year

Middlebury College cross country coach Terry Aldrich has been named the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) National Coach of the Year for the fifth time. Aldrich recently led the women’s team at Middlebury to its fifth NCAA Championship.

Matson Earns New England Honors

Middlebury College football player Andrew Matson (Coventry, R.I.) has been named to the N.E. Football Writers Division II/III All-new England Team. The All-NESCAC selection helped lead the Panthers to a 5-3 season, with sole possession of third place in the final NESCAC standings.

Women's Hockey Dominates Wesleyan

Middlebury remained undefeated on the season as well as all-time vs. Wesleyan with a 5-0 victory in Connecticut. In 41 meetings between the teams dating back to 1979, Middlebury owns a 38-0-3 record.

Men's Hockey Wins PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout

Mason Graddock scored a power play goal on a rebound with 2:51 remaining to lift Middlebury to a 3-2 victory over in-state rival Norwich in the title game of the 11th annual PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout. The title is the fourth for the Panthers, as they move to 4-0 on the season. Norwich falls to 2-1-1 on the year, as the Panthers held a 27-19 shots advantage on the night. Middlebury netminder Doug Raeder took home tournament M.V.P. honors for the Panthers.

Women's Basketball Suffers Loss To Norwich

Norwich placed five players in double-figures on its way to a 79-70 road win over Middlebury in Pepin Gym. The Panthers shot a solid .464 from the floor, but could not overcome 26 turnovers in the game, falling to 3-3 on the season. Norwich heated up in the second half, shooting .563 on its way to the win, as the move to 3-1.

Men's Basketball Falls At St. Lawrence

Middlebury entered the Thanksgiving break with an 84-71 road loss at St. Lawrence. The Panthers shot an impressive .475 from the floor, but it wasn't enough as the Saints controlled the boards 51-31.

Petrelli & Delano Earn All-American Honors

Senior Taryn Petrelli (Harrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Chase Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) have both earned All-American honors by the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association). Delano was a first-team selection, while Petrelli earned a spot on the second team. The duo helped lead the Panthers to a 14-4 record with a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.

Bloom Named Player Of The Week

Middlebury College women’s hockey player Alexi Bloom (Highland Park, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Bloom stopped 76 of the 79 shots she faced, a save percentage of .962, during the Panther’s 1-0-1 weekend at the Panther/Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh. Bloom made 40 saves in a 2-1 win over top-ranked Elmira on Friday evening, then turned aside 36 shots in a 2-2 tie with #2 Plattsburgh St. on Saturday.

Johnson Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College women’s basketball player Emily Johnson (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Johnson averaged 20.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting at a.474 rate from the floor in a 3-0 week for the Panthers. Against Springfield on Sunday in the Williams Tip-Off Classic, Johnson had a game-high 19 points to lead Middlebury to a 61-58 come-from-behind victory. For the week, Johnson converted 19-of-24 free throws and shot 7-for-16 (.438) from behind the arc.

Fall NESCAC Academic Team Announced

The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2008 Fall All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution.

Women's Cross Country Wins Fifth NCAA Title

The Middlebury College women's cross country team won its fifth NCAA Championship with a convincing victory at the race held in Hanover, Indiana. The Panthers previously won titles in '00, '01, '03 and '06, earning the 29th national title for Middlebury College since '95. Along with the eight NCAA men's hockey titles, women's cross country, women's lacrosse and women's hockey have each won five national crowns at Middlebury.
